October Is Head Start
Awareness Month
Every year, October is the national Head Start Awareness Month to help celebrate and highlight the Head Start program’s impact on children and their families.
Early Head Start programs support the growth and development of young children and are available at no cost to children aged birth to 5 in eligible families.
According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, “Since 1965, Head Start programs have reached more than 38 million children and their families. Children enrolled in Head Start programs are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college; have improved social, emotional, and behavioral development; and are better prepared to be parents themselves than similar children who do not attend the program.”
Here at Sunrise Children’s Foundation, our Early Head Start learning centers for children aged 0-3 focus on:
- Promoting infant and toddler health and development
- Fostering positive family relationships
- Supporting parents as the primary decision-makers and nurturers of their children
Our Nevada Ready classrooms, for children aged 3-5, allow a continuum to care for students in a traditional Pre-K program geared toward school readiness.
All Head Start and Early Head Start programs must follow federal child care requirements throughout the country. In addition to meeting the federal requirements, these programs may be required to be licensed by your state or territory.
