Job Description: Under the supervision of the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator, performs the functions of a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) in accordance with established guidelines. A WIC Peer Counselor is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to): Attends breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor. Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in the WIC clinics. Receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned. Is available outside normal business hours to assist new mothers having breastfeeding problems. Refer mothers according to agency established protocols. Travel to other WIC sites and to trainings as required.

Experience: A minimum of one year experience counseling breastfeeding women. Has credentials of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or has other certification in lactation management (e.g. CLE, CLC) or State-approved training in lactation management Prior Supervisory experience preferred. Prior WIC experience preferred.

Other Requirements: Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; knowledge of the regulations, policies, and procedures governing WIC and operational systems; ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and possess good listening skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently; and knowledge of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and educational software.

Job Description: Under the supervision of the WIC Program Manager, performs the functions of a WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator in accordance with established guidelines. The Breastfeeding Coordinator oversees the Sunrise Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and supervises the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (BFPC). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to): Assist in establishing program goals and objectives. Determine BFPC staffing needs, recruit and interview potential peer counselors. Arrange training for BFPC and keep records of trainings attended. Provide ongoing supervision including time sheets and yearly evaluations. Report to the State Breastfeeding Coordinator as needed. Attend all state sponsored and agency required meetings.

TITLE OF POSITION: Infant Toddler Teacher


BASIC FUNCTION

Under the general supervision of the Education Services Manager and the direct guidance of the Early Head Start Site Supervisor, the Early Head Start Infant/Toddler Teacher functions as a primary care giver who plans, organizes and conducts a full range of developmentally appropriate activities for up to four (4) assigned children that are eight weeks through three years of age (including children with special needs). The Infant/Toddler Teacher promotes each child’s growth and development by creating and implementing a developmentally appropriate environment in which children can develop personal relationships, experiment, make choices, solve problems, and develop age-appropriate social and self-help skills. The Infant//Toddler Teacher works to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly physical environment; supervises all classroom activities; participates in parent education and shares responsibility for parent involvement. The Infant/Toddler Teacher may be assigned to a variety of classrooms/centers and tasks as needed to achieve program goals and to ensure regulatory compliance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. At minimum, must have a Child Development Associate
credential with a focus on infants and toddlers 2. Experience with infants/toddlers in a group setting preferred
3. Communicates understandable ideas and instructions orally and in writing
4. Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English well enough to understand and be understood
5. Ability to maintain written documents and records
6. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies and educational materials
7. Communicates in the primary language of enrolled families
8. Communicates and understands infants/ toddlers, their parents and other staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Lifting children weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds
2. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to maintain direct eye contact
with infant/toddlers 3. Sitting on the floor and/or in preschool chairs
4. Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus and standard office and classroom equipment
5. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities
6. Hearing and speaking to exchange information
7. Driving a vehicle to conduct work
8. Tolerate some exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases
9. Tolerate moderate to loud noise level
10. Some travel by car, bus, airplane or train may be required as associated with attendance at conferences, meeting and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state and in some cases overnight travel may be required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

NAC 432A.306 Requirements for caretakers. (NRS 432A.077)

1. Every caretaker of children in a child care facility must be:
  • (a) At least 16 years of age;
  • (b) Able to summon help in an emergency; and
  • (c) Emotionally and physically qualified to carry out a program which places emphasis on the development of children.

2. Not more than 50 percent of the caretakers in a child care center, a child care institution or a preschool may be under 18 years of age. Any caretaker who is under 18 years of age and is employed in such a facility must:
(a) Have completed a course in the development of children which is approved by:
(1) An agency designated by the Director of the Department; or
(2) If the Director has not designated an agency, the Bureau or the local licensing agency; or
(b) Be currently enrolled in such a course.

3. A child care facility may not be operated unless a person who is 18 years of age or older is on the premises of the facility.

Parent Educator


POSITION OVERVIEW

This position serves as home-based teacher and working individually with 12 or more families, possibly including expecting mothers, to support the development of the family and their infants and toddlers. The home-based teacher will work collaboratively with a team of other home-based staff to implement the Parents as Teachers Born to Learn model for children 0 to 36 months (or other curriculum as appropriate) to achieve outcomes for children and families of all backgrounds and abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

-High School Diploma
-Experience/training in early childhood education, family services, CDA (infant/toddler) preferred
-Pass physical examination, background check, and fingerprinting screen.
-Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds, 20 times a day if needed.
-Driver’s license required.
-Basic computer literacy in email, word processing and internet navigation.
-Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
